Vessels of REMEMBRANCE

A THREAD OF REMEMBRANCE

Himalayan cashmere hand-spun and woven in Srinagar

Smriti (स्मृति) is the Sanskrit word for remembrance.

Not the memory we reach for, but the memory that reaches for us — the kind that lives in the body, in the weight of a shawl across the shoulders, in the recognition of a warmth we did not know we had been missing.

THERE IS A ROAD THAT DOES NOT APPEAR ON ANY MAP

It is walked not by feet, but by fibre —

by a single thread of warmth passed from the wind, to the goat, to the hand, to the loom, and at last to the skin

WHERE THE THREAD IS BORN

It begins on the high plateau of Changthang, where the air is thin and the winters are long.

An unlikely birthplace for tenderness — and yet it is here, in the quiet against the cold, that the softest fibre in the world is made.

The Changthangi goat grows its Pashm not for beauty, but for warmth: a fine, secret undercoat that lets it live where little else can.

The Smriti Collection asks you to remember that great softness is so often born of hardship

The fibre that will one day hold you was first born to hold back the ice.

The PASHMINA ROAD

CANVASES CARRIED BY THE WIND

These works of art draw their inspiration from the spiritual traditions of Śrī Kalahasti, a town renowned as a major pilgrimage site dedicated to Lord Śiva. It is one of the five Pancha Bhoota Sthalams — sacred sites representing the five elements — where Śiva is worshipped as Vāyu, the element of wind and breath. Centuries ago, Chitrakattis, wandering temple storytellers, carried painted textile scrolls from village to village, using them to share tales with pilgrims.

The motifs on a Saundarya kaftan carry that same lineage forwarD

Epics, nature, and scenes from mythology, rendered with the same care once given to temple art.

An Art That Cannot Be Repeated

Because every design is drawn entirely by hand, no two kaftans are ever identical.

Each one reflects the artisan who made it — their skill, their patience, that particular sitting at the cloth.

The coveted Saundarya Collection elevates devotion and generational craftsmanship to a height of intentional luxury.
